Anti-Ragging Policy
At T.B.M.L. College, we are firmly committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited and is treated as a criminal offense, in accordance with the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997 and UGC regulations.
Institutional Measures at T.B.M.L. College
- Anti-Ragging Committee comprising faculty, administrative staff, and student representatives actively monitors campus conduct.
- Anti-Ragging Helpline and Complaint Box are available for students to report incidents confidentially.
- Orientation and Awareness Programs are conducted at the beginning of every academic year.
- Undertakings against ragging are collected from students and parents at the time of admission.
- Strict surveillance in hostels, common areas, and corridors through staff patrols and monitoring.
Legal Framework: Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997
This law applies to all educational institutions in Tamil Nadu. Key highlights include:
- Section 3: Ragging is strictly prohibited both within and outside college premises.
- Section 4: Offenders may face imprisonment up to 2 years and a fine up to ₹10,000.
- Section 5: Any student convicted of ragging will be dismissed and barred from admission to any educational institution.
- Section 6: On receiving a complaint, immediate action must be taken. Proven cases lead to suspension or dismissal.
- Section 7: Failure to act on ragging complaints by college authorities will be treated as **abetment*, with legal consequences.
Definition of Ragging
Ragging refers to any act that:
- Causes physical or psychological harm
- Induces fear, shame, or embarrassment
- Involves teasing, bullying, or harassment
- Forces students to perform acts against their will
Examples include verbal abuse, forced participation in inappropriate activities, physical intimidation, or any behavior that disrupts a student's dignity.
